KEEPING MOTIVATED AS A BLOGGER

I haven't blogged for over a month... Scary! But I'm starting to get back into my groove, slowly but surely. My full time job and everyday life have taken priority over blogging (and Instagram, and being active on Twitter!) recently, but I'm finally getting back on track. I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on things and also how exactly I try to keep motivated as a blogger.

I wouldn't exactly say I've had bloggers block, as I feel I've still had ideas floating around in my mind. I've written posts, taken and edited images and then when I've thought I've been happy with it, have completely changed my mind and then deleted it. (Wasteful, I know). Although blogging is something I do as a hobby and I make no money from it (hopefully one day I can call it my job!), I still want every post to be as professional and enjoyable as possible.

Refresh
Let's go back to basics here. Think about why you started blogging in the first place. What or who inspired you? I know for a fact I put way too much pressure on myself and sometimes forget why I actually started a blog. Remember that blogging shouldn't be a chore, sure taking, editing, renaming and uploading photos can be a lengthy task, but should still all add to the end result of feeling content and satisfied when you click publish.

Connect
Whether you've got besties who blog, or join in Twitter chats, speaking to like minded people will help. Everyone has their own methods and ideas on how to deal with a creative slump and simply talking about it, sharing, and chatting about blogging in a positive light can help you to stay motivated.

Dream
Set goals, try to keep them realistic but hey - dare to dream! I always think you get out what you put in, but sometimes it can take time and there will always be set backs. Money is a huge issue for me cause I don't have much spare to spend on blogging after my monthly bills. But there are always ways of overcoming problems like this. Focus on what you LOVE about blogging and how you can adapt your routine to fit in with your life and circumstances.

I don't know where my journey will take me next but I'm excited for the future and am going to try my hardest to stay positive and do everything I can to keep my creativity flowing! How do you keep motivated as a blogger?

  1. I think it's definitely important to remind yourself from time to time that blogging should not be a chore, like you mentioned. Sometimes I get really stressed over blogging things and I keep thinking I have to post and I have to keep active on instagram, when in reality I don't have to. I can take a break if I want to and that's cool because blogging isn't my job.

  2. I find that taking a break and enjoying other peoples creative work, whether it's movies, books, youtube etc helps me to refocus onto my own creativity.

    1. I'm so glad you relate, this is probably one of the things I'm worse at in regards to blogging is speaking to others. I'm trying to write up a schedule so I manage blogging around my full time job and home life but with all aspects like taking and editing images, commenting on other blogs, promoting my blog, joining in Twitter chats etc! Tempted to do a blog post about it once I've got my own rythm going! Xox

  10. I hear you! Sometimes you just need to step back and let life take over. I have a fulltime job too and sometimes it just gets too much. Funnily enough, browsing online shops usually helps to get me motivated as I immediately start planning new outfits.

  11. The 'refresh' advice is really good, thinking about what made you start doing something in the first place can really inspire you to get back in the saddle! I hope you're feeling rejuvinated and will keep blogging in the future!
