Using "props" in my photos is something that I have never really done until recently. This year one of my main blog related goals is to improve the content of my posts and also make my photography more visually interesting and appealing. Adding in little extras and using props is a great way of making your photos more eye-catching, I can't wait to start experimenting more with my photography. I hope you enjoy this post and it gives you some inspo for props to use!

DeleteThe background you use in your post is this a floor sample? loos soo nice!
ReplyDeleteIt's meant to be for decorating furniture, it's similar to wallpaper but is peelable. I got it from Wilko (can't find it on their website or I'd have sent you the link) I also use wooden wallpaper samples a lot too. I've seen others use marble clipboards too! Thanks for reading and commenting xox
Deleteany dollar store will have the reelable wallpaper. It's used for covering the interior of drawers. ! I use the same 'wallpaper '
Deletethese are definitely great ideas!! I always steal the flowers from my living room to add a touch of color to my photos and cactus are also great! :)

Thanks Mary, and thank you for reading and commenting! I'm very lucky as I have big windows in my bedroom which let so much light in so great for taking photos in front of! Xox
DeleteDo you have any advice for shooting flatlays? And is this marble background a floor sample?
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and commenting Bri! It's similar to a wallpaper but I think it's meant for furniture it is peelable but comes on a big roll like wallpaper does so I can just roll it out then roll back up! With regards to shooting flatlays I always try and mix up my backgrounds as much as I can for different posts so they don't all look the same (so hard when that marble is so pretty!!!) try and create a theme of using similar colours like I'll have my rose gold watch with my rose gold makeup brushes for example. And as well I think just accessorise for the time of year too so like sunglasses in summer, christmas baubles in winter! Mix it up as well so either have like a traditional square shot or some items at an angle and utilise negative space (depending on what it is that you're photographing!) I hope this helps! Xox
DeleteUseful post - thank you! I've never done photography on my blog (I'm all about the words haha), but my goal this year is to start trying to add photos in, and I don't really have any idea where to start so this is great! Question - do you think I need to invest in a proper camera, or is my iPhone camera acceptable?
ReplyDeletepetticoatsandpatriarchy.com xx
Hi Liv! Thanks for reading and commenting :) I'm a very visual person so I think that's why I've always used photos in my posts but others enjoy reading strong content as opposed to looking at pictures don't they. Every one is different! Defo not I don't have a camera I just use my iPhone (well I used my husbands iPhone to take these as mine is in the photos). I use an app called VSCO to edit my photos to give them a more crisp finish. They're not heavily edited just slightly but it makes a huge difference! Xox
DeleteI have always wondered this, too, as I've only had my blog for a little over 6 months and think photography is so important yet don't have the funds yet to purchase a quality camera. This is a great list and very helpful!
DeleteNo I haven't either Renee, and never thought I could capture such a high quality image from an iPhone but you really can! I'll have been blogging a year in April, time has just flown by! Glad you found this helpful and thank you so much for reading and commenting! Xox
DeleteThis is useful indeed. I still struggle on laying everything but I am practicing. I am looking forward to share my progress in my blog.
